THE GOOD: We can definitely see progress over yesterday and have not had any setbacks (knock on wood). Today, they even had Sharon take some steps with a walker. She made it about fifteen feet and back. She was then exhausted and slept for three hours. She is also doing her breathing exercises using a couple of devices to help get her lungs functioning properly. She is still in the ICU but we are glad about that as there is more attentive care. I would think any move out of the ICU probably wouldn't be till at least Monday.
THE BAD: She is still in pain and we imagine that will be the case for a good while. The meds are helping for sure, but when she took that long nap and hadn't pushed the magic pain-relief button for three hours, the pain was intense upon waking. She can only press the magic button every ten minutes, so it took four of those 10-minute cycles (40 minutes) before the pain was tolerable again. We have asked the nurses to always wake her after a couple of hours of sleep so she can push the button. The nurses are not permitted to push it for her.
THE FUNNY: As mentioned yesterday, the meds are causing her to have strange dreams and not be able to distinguish them from reality for a bit after waking...which gives us some of those laughs needed to keep ourselves sane. Yesterday, when Sawyer was with her, she awoke talking about how his fiance, Ava, had been "robbed". After realizing it was a dream, she told Sawyer the details. She said our neighborhood was having a "Best Outfit" competition and the judging was to occur when the snow plows came around. Sharon thought Ava was the sure winner as she was wearing an adorable bunny outfit. But apparently, Ava got snubbed, the fix was in, and Sharon wasn't having any of that as she awoke. She also had a dream about the parents of Shane's fiance,Tasha, that was equally bizarre. She must have her two daughter-in-laws-to-be on her mind...and that brings us back to the "good" again.
Thank God for the “Good” and you’re insanely creative sense of humor. 🙏 the pain begins to subside quickly! Breaks my heart, thinking of her in such pain. sending prayers and lots of love 💕
So glad you’re documenting all of this, Steve! Glad to hear the good… hoping it outweighs the bad. Sending love ❤️
Thanks for the updates. My family and friends are enjoying the humor in the updates.
Ok. Ava HAS to wear a cute bunny costume when she visits! I think those meds deserve an Oscar!
Sure do appreciate the updates and your sense of humor!
