Not Sharon. I’m talking about you blog readers whom I lured in with daily posts for 11 days straight and then cut you off cold turkey. Sorry, but I needed a break.
Oh, so, you want to know how Sharon is doing? A little better each day, with the emphasis on “little.” She’s waiting for her digestive system to relearn how it is supposed to work. So far, it has been a slow learner. Did you ever work on a group project? Sharon is the one doing everything she can to get an “A” while the stomach, intestines and bowels are just hanging out, putting forth as little effort as possible, and hoping to skate by with a “C minus.” But this is who she is stuck working with. That’s partly because all the other members in the group got expelled during surgery.
Sharon is still taking a small amount of oxygen at night while sleeping. They were nice enough to give us a home oxygen compressor that beeped non-stop every two hours. I suspect that was so it would feel like she was still in the hospital. We have since replaced that machine and the new one only beeps half as much. We don’t expect her to need the extra oxygen much longer, but also don’t know how we are supposed to know when it is safe to stop. There is no button that pops out of her stomach like when the turkey is done cooking. Though they certainly had the opportunity to put one in.
So, while her innards are still sloshing around and enjoying the extra space they’ve been afforded, Sharon is busy walking inside the house with no walker, doing her breathing exercises and napping as needed.
Since progress is expected to be slow, future posts will only be made when there is a milestone to share. I was also told by Sharon that she is now feeling up to taking over these updates. I told her to start her own damn blog. I thought for sure she was asleep when I said it, but apparently not. Uh, oh.
Sharon, I'm so glad you're at home and able to walk around in it! Now you've just gotta show
your bowels who's boss. So proud pf the progress you've made - and thinking of you every day.
Love the witty updates as always. Thinking of you, Sharon!
Progress is progress no matter how "little". Sharon stay strong, keep the pace and at some point things will start to work together and then you'll soar! Steve, somehow blog after blog you have managed to describe parts of this tragedy in a most delightful way. A difficult thing to do when there is not much to be delightful about. I appreciate your every word and all the love and support you are giving my dear friend Sharon. Sending love and prayers for lots of little progress!
I have been looking for a new update. Thank you! Sharon, so happy to hear you’re walking around without the walker - you’re amazing! Lot‘s of Love - Patti
