Today Sharon had her first solid food in over a week and hit the culinary trifecta: breakfast, lunch and dinner. She is taking it slow but enjoying every bite.
Most of her day was a waiting game...which has gone into overtime. She was to get a CT scan to see if there was something that might explain her shallow breathing. She got to the CT room but they couldn’t get a usable vein to give her the contrast. They’ve been having trouble finding veins to volunteer most of the week. So, she had to go back to her room and wait all day for a PICC line. Then the Physical and Occupational Therapy teams were not allowed to work with her at all until she had the CT scan. Sadly, that means there were no new walking records today nor steps with Schweppes. But she did plenty of sitting up in a chair, which apparently is a good thing. She sat there on her sheet-covered throne like the Queen of the ICU in her bejeweled hospital gown and babushka crown all day long. Her Majesty did finally get the CT scan just a short time ago but we don’t have the results yet. Off with their heads!
I’m not positive, but my husband’s intuition is telling me that Sharon may be getting tired of being in the hospital. Just a hunch. We’re not sure of everything she needs to do to be released, but I think she’s crossed most of them off the list and her pain management is better today as well. Huzzah! Long live the Queen!
Glad to hear the Queen is now able to eat. How’s the food?
Love,
Carol and Phil
Steve, these vignettes and full reports really help me understand Sharon’s day to day. Thank you.
Nothing like real food!
So glad things are getting better and solid food happened for her! We want her home! But it’s good to iron out asmany issues as possible!
At last - FOOD Glorious food!! I always thought she had a bit of royalty in her. The red hair is a definite give away. Don't let frustration over the "hurry up and wait" syndrome of hospital procedures get to you. Stick to your routine and when they show up - let them eat cake and wait! God Bless the QUEEN!
